Why professional headshots sometimes need to look a little crazy
How your professional headshots need to look depends 100% on what clients you’d like to reach. If your clientele is the younger hip crowd then your headshot needs to reflect that. If you are selling skateboards you wouldn’t wear a suit.
If your clients, however, reflect higher-end values, dressing up might be a good idea. Would you trust a financial advisor who shows up in shorts, flip-flops and a t-shirt? How about an attorney? Or a banker?
It would be hard to take them seriously. Don’t you think? Even if your clients sometimes show up in jeans and a t-shirt, that doesn’t mean it’s a good idea for you to do the same. Maybe they don’t need to dress up anymore.
A professional outfit shows that you are serious about what you do. It reflects your attitude of being professional and that you should be taken seriously. Looking professional makes the right first impression and looking professional is mostly in what you wear.

“In my line of work, I need to have a headshot. I think it’s important to have a face out there that expresses what I want it to, because so much is done online. When I meet somebody to start a business relationship with them, I know that they’ve checked me out on LinkedIn, looking to decipher pieces of information about me based on my picture and my bio. I think that in this day and age, you absolutely must have the right photograph. My biggest trepidation was making sure that I got the right image to attract the customers that are my target market.
Walter took the time to ask me questions about what I was trying to accomplish and to take not just a picture, but an executive portrait with what I was trying to express in mind. That is something that I’ve never experienced before, and it’s something special and unique to Walter’s business.
I love my photographs, and I can’t wait to use them in my marketing material. I’m very, very pleased.”
