The Trouble With Headshots …
… is that they can look good, even when they aren’t.
This is tricky. How are you supposed to know that your headshot isn’t effective if it looks good? If you paid a professional to take it, and even the professional says it’s good? And your friends and your mom agree, too?
This is a problem we see with a lot of headshots. And, to be honest, it’s a problem we run into when we try to explain to potential clients why our headshots are different from the ones you pay under $100 for at Sears, Walmart, or even a higher-end studio. It’s not possible for anyone to know what they don’t know, and recognizing a properly-crafted headshot can be a blind spot for a lot of people. Even people who craft headshots for a living. That’s why, before we ever put a client in front of a camera, we focus on education.
What is the purpose of your headshot?
What audience are you trying to reach?
What body language will send the message you’re trying to send?
What seemingly small details, if not attended to, will derail that message before it even gets out of the gate?
These are all topics we cover with our clients before the first image is captured. And we hear, over and over, that they didn’t know how much went into crafting good headshots. And that, now that they do, they understand exactly why a C1M Executive Headshot is so different from a quick, inexpensive, snap-it-and-go photo elsewhere.
We’ve honed our process so that it’s painless for you. Some clients, like Kari here, even describe it as “a great experience.” We educate. We put you at ease. And we make sure you leave with a polished, professional and, most importantly, effective headshot.
